1a. Transportation Research Board
(TRB)
The Transportation Research Board (TRB) is
a unit of the National Research Council, a private, nonprofit
institution that is the principal operating agency of the National
Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering. The
Board’s mission is to promote innovation and progress in
transportation by stimulating and conducting research,
facilitating the dissemination of information, and encouraging the
implementation of research results.

1b. Federal
Highway Administration (FHWA)
The FHWA's primary mission is to ensure that
the Nation's highway transportation system is safe for public use.
This movement of people and goods must be accomplished economically
and efficiently. The FHWA also must consider how highways affect the
environment, as well as social and economic
conditions.
- WesTrack - Experimental Asphalt Road Test
WesTrack
refers to an experimental road test facility constructed in
Nevada. Its main objectives are to a) continue the development
of performance-related specifications (PRS) for hot-mix asphalt
construction by evaluating the impact on performance of
deviations in materials and construction properties, and to b)
provide early field verification of the SHRP Superpave Level III
mix design procedures.

Office of Technology Application (OTA)
The
technology applications mission of the Federal Highway
Administration (FHWA) is to ensure the timely identification and
assessment of innovative research results, technology, and
products and the application of those that are determined to be of
potential benefit to the highway community.
- FHWA/OTA RoadSavers
Created
by the Federal Highway Administration, RoadSavers report the
results of a project to determine how SHRP products are being
used to improve the condition and safety of the Nation's
highway system.
Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Centre (TFHRC)
The
Turner-Fairbank Highway Research Center is the research arm of the
FHWA. TFHRC has recently updated its website. Through the TFHRC

1c. American Association of State Highway
and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
AASHTO is an advocate for multimodal and intermodal
transportation, serving Member Departments, U.S. Department of Transportation and
Congress. AASHTO provides leadership, technical services, information and advice as well
as by contributing to national policy on transportation issues.
Lead States
A Lead States team has been designated for each of seven SHRP
technology areas under the Lead States Program. The teams are composed of state highway
agencies, along with associated contractors and suppliers, who have gained early and
significant experience and expertise in those seven technology areas.
The Web
site includes instructions for enrolling in listservs for each of
seven technology focus areas: Alkali-Silica Reactivity,
Anti-Icing/RWIS, Concrete Assessment and Rehabilitation, High
Performance Concrete, Innovative Pavement Maintenance Materials,

1d. Civil Engineering Research Foundation
(CERF)
The Civil
Engineering Research Foundation (CERF) is an independent
not-for-profit research organization established by the American
Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) to provide leadership, direction,
and an organizational structure to foster research for the civil
engineering profession at large.
Highway Innovative Technology Centre (HITEC)
The Highway
Innovative Technology Evaluation Center (HITEC) is a nationally
recognized, first-stop service center and clearinghouse for
implementing highway innovation. HITEC conducts impartial
performance evaluations for market-ready products where standards
or specifications do not exist.

Founded in 1902, the American Road &
Transportation Builders Association is a national federation of
private firms, public agencies and associations with a primary
goal of advocating strong federal investment in transportation
infrastructure.

manufacturers, and affiliated businesses. The Asphalt Institute's

The Australian Asphalt Pavement Association
(AAPA) was formed in 1969 as a non-profit organisation to promote
the economic use of asphalt and bitumen bound products based on
sound technical and commercial grounds. Throughout its history,
AAPA has maintained as its major objective the dissemination of
technical knowledge aimed at continual improvement in asphalt and
bitumen bound technology.

Centres
- North Central Superpave Center Home Page
The NCSC
serves 10 states and two Canadian provinces by acting as a
Superpave information clearinghouse; performing Superpave
validation, ruggedness, precision and bias testing; conducting
research of regional interest; planning and presenting training
and certification programs; and more.

- North Eastern Superpave Regional Centre
NECEPT's
primary mission is to facilitate implementation and validation of
the results of the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) by
promoting partnering between governmental agencies, industry

The South

engineering principles to improve pavement structures, materials,
and technologies.

- Center for Advanced Infrastructure
Technology - Rutgers University
In conjunction with the New Jersey
Department of Transportation (NJDOT) and the Federal Highway
Administration (FHWA), Rutgers University has established one of
the premier laboratories for bituminous materials
research.

The University of Maryland and a team of
subcontractors is currently evaluating, enhancing, and validating
the pavement performance models and associated software that
comprise the Superpave asphalt concrete mix performance analysis
procedures.
